The "Great RussianS" litter
Athene's second litter (1996) was composed of 11 puppies, which she mothered very well, thank you! Mainly brindles in varying shades, but a couple of clear reds like their mother. There were 7 males and 4 females in the litter. The puppies were theme named after famous Russians out of history... and it was a bit difficult to find 4 bitch names, though there were lots of dog names.
Unlike Athene's previous litter which produced seven Borzoi of essentially the same type, the second was an exercise in diversity. There were "mainstream" types such as Gale Snoddy's Am. & Cn.CH Entwood Ivan Grozny JC (multiple BOB wins, group placements, wins at Breed Specalities) and CH Entwood Elizaveta Velikaya ("Kiss") who was shown mainly in the BBE class. A couple approached their conformation titles, but their owners acquired other intrests. Peg Swistack"s "Never" (Entwood Anastasia Romanova CDX), is an obedience standout and competing for her UD. The balance had that other great Borzoi "Title".... Best Friend. In some ways, the standout of the litter was Traci Hilbert's Entwood Catherina Velikaya (Catherine the Great), who was the dam to the coursing standouts of the "Humphrey Bogart" litter (q.v.)
