The "Cherry" Litter
An exercise in Genetics
"Blaze" at home
As was noted in the paragraph on CH Entwood Artemis, we bred "Arty" to "Blaze" (Entwood Dimitri Donskoi) in an attempt to concentrate genes that went back to several old-time Borzoi kennels. Many of these Borzoi had attributes no longer readily available to current-day breeders and which were, in our opinion, worthy of perpetuating. Prominent among these kennels was Pickfair Kennels, which was at its peak of activity in the early 80s and was the source of our foundation bitch, Pickfair's Pandora.
This line produced compact bitches with impeccable gaits and equally fine attributes all around... and, the attribute of least importance (really) but the one that hits your eye: A glorious clear, bright red markings color that "blazes" out at you from a pure white base coat. Now, we all know (or should) that breeding for color can lead one down that "primrose path", but if everything else is there.... The Arty-Blaze breeding produced three puppies on 7/2/98, 1 bitch: "Cherry Tart" and two dogs: "Cherries Flambe" & "Cherries Jubilee". Cherry Tart (or just "Tart") was visually at least what we wanted. Tart was not used in competition much (though she could have been) as her destiny was "mammadog". Tart was bred to Roy Silguero's DC Gladkii Veter Lightning Bolt SC and produced the 7 puppies of the "Fire" litter (q.v.)
"Tart" as a 9-12 month puppy bitch
